What is Hopi Ear Candling?

what is hopi, go beyond illusion

Hopi Ear Candling or Thermo Auricular Therapy is a natural, pleasant and non-invasive treatment of the ears.
This ancient therapy has been handed down by many civilisations.

However, the practice reached the modern world via the native American Hopi Indians of North Arizona, who have used this therapy for hundreds of years.

What are the candles made of?

Hopi Ear Candling, Relaxation

The Hopi candle is not a candle as such, but a hollow tube made out of cotton flax.To stiffen the flax, it is impregnated with linen, pure beeswax, honey extract  and herb oils (in particular chamomile, sage and St Johns wort). The making of the candles is a complex process and all genuine Hopi candles are made in the traditional manner.

How do they work?

The candle is placed over the ear orifice and ignited. It works by vapourising its ingredients once lit, causing convectional air flow towards the first chamber of the ear. As it burns it produces a gentle local heat. The warm air combined with the oil and herbs soften the wax and draw it into the base of the candle. The candle creates a mild suction which lets the vapours gently massage the eardrum and auditory canal. Once the candle is placed in the ear it forms a seal which enables wax and other impurities to what happens diringbe drawn out of the ear.

What happens during the treatment?

Hopi Candling, Paula Linkiewicz

A session begins with asking questions relating to your medical history and then checking the ears for any infections or visible problems.

During the treatment you are asked to lie comfortably on one side and listen to relaxing music. The candle is then gently placed into the auditory canal, and the other end is lit. I hold it in a vertical position and keep the candle steady.

You will experience a pleasant crackling sound as the candle burns and a warm comfortable feeling. You do not need to be worried about being burnt. The candles have a filtering system and no residue can enter the ear.
As the candle burns down, the residue ash will just turn to dust. The candle is then taken away while you lie there for a few moments.

The procedure is repeated for the other ear, even if only one side is causing problems. Both ears are always treated to ensure balance is maintained.

Many people report an immediate release of pressure in their head after just one treatment session, although, depending on the condition, a number of sessions may be required to ease an ongoing problem fully.
After finishing candle treatment on both ears you lie confortably on your back to enjoy a complete facial massage followed by head and neck massage.
The whole treatment is very gentle and relaxing and may take up to 50 minutes.
